La féminité ne constitue en aucun cas une condition, une nature, une essence, mais une situation imposée par la volonté d’être femme.

Simone de Beauvoir (1908-1986) wrote the phrase “On ne naît pas femme, on le devient” in her 2 volumes’ book “Le deuxième sexe.” The book revealed the stereotyping of women and was a catalyst of the feminism movement. She is also known as existentialist.
She was very close to Jean-Paul Sartre whom she met in 1929 in Sorbonne.
