Diderot is known for having edited encyclopedia with multitudinous authorities of the 18th century from 1751 to 1765. He frequented salons, that of Paul Henri Thiry d’Holbach and that of Claude Adrien Helvétius, especially during the late 18th century, shared with the society his thoughts about materialism. His literal composings as showed in “Jacques le fataliste et son maître” and “Le Rêve de d’Alembert” are unique to him. His philosophical art reviews endued him with the title of the initiator of art criticism.
